Maria was born and raised in Lima, Peru, and has been playing tennis since the age of three. By six years old, she was competing in tournaments and began winning titles just a year later in the 8-and-under division. At age ten, Maria captured her first national championship while competing in the 12-and-under category, marking the beginning of a successful junior career.
